Residential
MacDonough Apartment
Location: Brooklyn, NY
This is the interior renovation of an apartment in an 1890s townhouse. Originally configured as a studio, the space was reimagined as a one-bedroom apartment. The social area now combines living, dining, and a new open kitchenette into one continuous space. A generous bedroom was added at the rear, overlooking the backyard.
The bathroom, remarkably well-preserved since the original construction, required only minimal updates, allowing most of its historic finishes and fixtures to remain intact. Other original elements, such as the wood window shutters and the fireplace structure, were also carefully preserved, anchoring the apartment in its architectural history.
The new kitchen introduces a fresh, calm atmosphere with a palette of whites and greens. The off-the-shelf cabinets are complemented by custom wood shelving and repurposed original cabinet pulls, striking a balance between contemporary and historic element.
The flooring throughout is engineered white oak, FloorScore certified, chosen for both its durability and environmental standards.
