Joana Torres is an architect with over 15 years of experience specializing in residential and retail architecture in New York City. Our expertise spans all phases of design—from concept development and schematic design to construction administration—ensuring a smooth process from vision to completion.
Joana’s portfolio includes high-end residences, affordable home renovations, flagship retail stores, and intimate restaurants. We tailor a multidisciplinary team to each project and work closely with consultants, developers, contractors, and craftspeople to navigate NYC’s codes, permitting, and construction challenges efficiently.
We are committed to sustainable and energy-efficient design and we prioritize the use of environmentally responsible materials and innovative building methods to enhance both user experience and long-term performance.
Joana earned a MSc in Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences from the Technical University of Delft (2004) and a BSc in Architecture from Universidade Lusíada, Lisbon (2002). Prior to her own practice, she has worked with Elmslie Osler Architect and ODA in NYC, Merge Architects in Boston, JDWA in Rotterdam, and Jorge Mario Jauregui in Rio de Janeiro.
Alongside her studio work, Joana also leads Oficina Design, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing design and construction services in for and in partnership with underserved communities.
